The components within hard disk drives are extremely sensitive and when these components become damaged, the hard drive will often be completely unusable. Replacement parts only prove a temporary stopgap solution. The parts inside every hard drive, even drives of the same model, are slightly different, and each hard drive is specially calibrated for its own components. As a result, even with its failed internal components replaced, these hard drives rarely run optimally and can only be read using fault-tolerant data recovery tools.

Dropped drives may be a big issue when doing proffessional data recovery, and damage on platters may often not be visible.
