Good point, Brett. We’re not out of the woods when it comes to dates screwing computers up! The Year 2038 problem could also potentially be a lot harder to fix than Y2K.

However, at least we have a built-in time limit to actually get things done and take steps to address the issue. The flurry of activity in the last two years in the 20th century were a bit like waiting until Sunday night to finish turning in a paper that’s due on Monday. We can probably expect to see similar steps to address 2036/2038 since we have a hard deadline to get everything future-proofed. That’s a luxury we don’t really have with the kind of cyber security vulnerabilities hackers like to exploit.
